Wale: The White Shoes
Wale paints the picture of the sometimes tragic cost of being fly with his “The White Shoes” visual. The Walu directed visual follows the story of a young teen going about his hustle the legit way to buy a pair of coveted Jordan XI’s, only to be met with jealousy and a tragic end. The track itself is from Wale’s latest release, The Album About Nothing.
As somebody that went from XJ 900’s to over 20 pairs of designer shoes and sneakers in a few short years, I can relate to the message in “The White Shoes.” Although I didn’t get clowned for wearing Payless shoes in elementary, I did feel left out because I wasn’t able to get Guess boots, Reebok Pumps and British Knights.Which only motivated me to get on my hustle as soon as I hit middle school.
But, now that I’m older I see that being fly isn’t the most important thing in life. I’d rather look bummy and have my car paid in full and a fly roof over my head than a Louis Vuitton purse with no money in it any day.
