Philadelphia’s Columbia 215 enlists O.C. to deliver a much needed PSA, detailing the current nightmare of being black in America. If you’ve been following the news on social media or prefer to keep it traditional by actually watching it on TV, you already know that the rate of hate, slander and violence towards black people is starting to mirror that of the pre-Civil Rights era. With another brother or sister becoming a hashtag every other week, many wonder why rappers and celebrities aren’t speaking up or using their voice for change.
Maybe it’s the money or maybe they don’t want to alienate their (mostly suburban) fanbase. But whatever the reason, I’m not one to knock the hustle and really don’t look to mainstream artists to speak on anything other than light subject matter. Which is why I come to the underground for that real, like Columbia 215’s “PSA.” The track is more than relevant and will wake you, if you aren’t already woke.
