I remember back in the day when going to church was something you didn’t have a choice about. If your parents weren’t especially religious, you can bet your grandma had you there every Sunday and on weekdays for choir rehearsal. Nowadays going to church is more of an option than automatic.
Some might say that this the the reason why black culture has declined so much over the past few years. I don’t know exactly when people stopped going to church on a regular basis but I think it was around the time that Flavor Of Love and Soulja Boy came out. You know everything went to hell after that.
I’ll admit I don’t even go to church anymore. After I got into my black history books (the real ones) and learned that religion was forced upon slaves to make them more docile and obedient to their master I wasn’t too enthused. And I really wasn’t feeling it after I learned that the slave masters focused on heaven after “tribulations” on Earth that THEY imposed as a way of coercing the slaves to put up with their mistreatment.
On top of that all of the white Jesus pics are actually Michaelangelo’s cousin. (Jesus was black y’all). And I know I’m not the only one that knows all of this. The internet has made it so easy to uncover the truth that it’s hard to continue to live a lie. And let’s not even get on that reality tv show about the Preachers Of LA.
All these things plus more make it hard to go to church nowadays. I still believe in God though. You can’t deny that fact. I just don’t feel the need to go to church to have a meaningful relationship with Him.
