9 Questions With Levina Lye
Now my interviews are usually only 7 questions, but Levina Lye is such an interesting person I had to give her that extra 2. Catch the 7 and extra 2 below:
I’ve also gone from living in a not so optimal environment to a more productive one as a kid. How did you moving from the Bronx to upstate New York shape the way you view life today?
I have always been me no matter where I reside. I am still that crazy carefree girl that I have always been and I think that is the most important thing about me. No matter where I happen to show up, I can only be me.
Did your old friends/associates call you bourgie because you left them behind?
Well I have always been really anti-social. I’ve never really had to worry about leaving anybody behind because in a way I am my own best friend. As for my family and the people that really matter to me, they never have to worry about being left behind because I am a very loyal person.
What’s the craziest thing you ever experienced while living in the Bronx?
Well, there was a lot of street violence and drama in the school I attended. Every day was a mystery and you pretty much had to watch your back all the time –kid or not. I only resided in the city until I was 12, so I had moved away before any real issues could come into play.
What can we expect from your upcoming EP, Pieces Of Me?
I think that people can expect for my EP to be honestly random as hell. Versatile is my middle name and I never want to be put into a box. Therefore, my EP should have no limits and no expectations other than to be a surprise and a great body of work.
Aside from life, where else do you draw your creative inspiration from?
I don’t know if you know… but I am an alien. So I tend to draw experience from outer space. Supernatural activity is rare but I guess I’m on this planet to attract the other aliens that may have unfortunately landed here.
How do you get your hair to look so awesome?
I just let it be and most importantly try not to let it get too knotty or out of hand. Coconut oil is also my best friend and we pretty much meet every day to keep this “awesome” hair going.
What three music videos have had the most impact on your life? Why?
We found Love by Rihanna is definitely a favorite!!! I just admire how the whole “love being like a drug” concept is portrayed in such a dramatic way and it has a way of touching your soul. I really like “The Zone” by The Weeknd. Artistically, it’s really cool and it gives me something to draw inspiration from visually for my own work. This last video is random but I’m going to pick “I’m Glad” by Jennifer Lopez. I’m pretty sure anytime a woman watches that video she feels extremely sexy and thinks she too, can flip off of tables in the air… and STILL look sexy.
Where do you see yourself around this time next year?
I will still be working like crazy and I think a lot more people will relate to me musically and as a person. The more I continue to put myself out there, I believe people will better understand and relate and that is the main goal for me as a singer/ songwriter.
What advice do you have for others struggling to be themselves in today’s society where anything out of the ordinary automatically gets ridiculed?
You were born to be you. You can’t be anybody else and it’s never wise to follow others. Most people are following other people and don’t even know who they are. Be you, even if that means people judge you. You will judged either way so WHY NOT be YOU?
