I recently caught up with Georgia’s own, Smitti Boi to pick his brain about life as a producer, entrepreneurship, and being an 80’s baby. Catch what he had to say below….
How did you come up with the name Smitti Boi?
I came up with the name “Smitti Boi” while serving in the military. My last name is Smith but everyone referred to me as “Smitti”. “Boi” was added by inspiration from one of my favorite producers, Drumma Boy.
What made you know that music was your calling?
Honestly, it started off as a hobby and something I just did for fun. It was when I started playing some of my beats for others and received so much positive feedback, that I began taking it more seriously. Over time I got better at it and it took off from there.
How long does it usually take you to produce a track?
Depending on the type of track I’m producing, it can take as little as 10 minutes or up to several hours.
I see you’re an entrepreneur. What businesses have you had your hand in?
Right now I am just focusing on building my brand as a producer. I am also currently in the process of starting my own production label.
How has being an 80’s baby influenced your style and perspective on life?
Being an 80’s baby has a lot to do with who I am today. 80’s babies were raised differently and I believe we are a lot more appreciative.
Which album has had the most impact on your life? Why?
The album that has had the most impact on my life would have to be “Trial and Error” from my artist “Soufboi“, which will be released later this year. The album has been in the works for over a year now and I got to experience first hand, how much time and effort is involved with producing an entire mixtape.
As far as music goes, what point do you have to reach in order to consider yourself successful?
I want to not only produce timeless music that people want to continue to hear, but to be mentioned with the greats such as Dr. Dre, Pharrell, and Quincy Jones just to name a few. It is then that i will consider myself a success.
