I recently caught up with the incredibly talented and humble Milwaukee artist, S.O.U.F. to pick his brain about growing up in a house full of music and time spent playing in his school marching brand. Catch what he had to say below.
How did you come up with your stage name?
S.O.U.F: My stage name is Me Spits Outrageous Universal Flow (S.O.U.F)
Who are some of your musical influences? Why?
S.O.U.F : I have many musical influences. The biggest being Jay Z. Grew up rockin his music. He brought a Classy feel to Hip Hop I love writing music before then but he made me wanna do Music as a professional level
What type of music could you find playing at your mother’s house on a typical day while growing up?
S.O.U.F: My mother played all kinds of music, anything from Whitney Houston to Will Smith,Rkelly, Isley Brothers, case ,Michael Jackson ,SWV a lot of the oldies, Jackson 5, Color Me bad ,Aaron hall, Milli Vanilli, Jodeci mainly a lot of R&B can’t remember them all but mom’s played music 24/7
I was in the marching band too (trombone). What instruments did you play? Which one did you like the most?
S.O.U.F: I played the Obo clarinet trumpet trombone drums. Ending up sticking with the drums, wanted to be a producer Dreams back then
Was writing rhymes the natural next step for you after writing poetry? What differences have you found between them?
S.O.U.F: No It wasn’t. I looked at them in their own light as completely different things. As I grew older I started to realize they are both forms of art that i can verbally express my self I actually started using some of my poems as verses in my early years not much of a difference to me nowadays my music is poetry over a beat
Aside from yourself, who do you think are the dopest artists out right now (mainstream & underground)?

What’s your definition of success?
Success to me isn’t measured in cars, clothes, women, etc. Success to me is when someone I have never met never seen couldn’t pick them out in a crowd BUT they can pick me out and walk up to me and say hey S.O.U.F your music helped me get through some hard times If I can inspire/influence/help out someone out with my music then my campaign has been successful don’t get me wrong I’m coming for the world I’m just saying it’s about the music to me 1st #musichead
